A chain saw is a motorized, portable mechanical saw that is used in logging activities such as limbing, bucking and felling. Such activities like removing branches and foliage in order to fell trees and snags assist in cutting firebreaks, harvesting firewood, and suppressing wild land fires.

These chainsaws have been developed as tools and as a type of chainsaw art with specially designed blades. It was developed by Stihl as an Easy2Start, or ErgoStart in Europe. Hence, this system uses a type of spring in order to surmount the compression of the engine which usually starts on one pull. Manual chain saw is cheaper than the gasoline powered and electric motor saw. A gasoline powered chain saw consists of a small two stroke gasoline combustion engine, a long metal frame alloy and the cutting chain itself.

Through the ingenuity of a German orthopedist named Bernard Heine, the first chain saw was made around 1830. The astrodome, as what he called it, had chainlinks that carried small cutting teeth, particularly since the edges were set at an angle. During this time, this was used for cutting bones.

Joseph Buford Cox and Andreas Stihl were among the two important contributors to the modern chain. They latter developed and patented a chainsaw in 1926. Thus, in the year 1929, a gasoline powered chainsaw, plus a company to produce it.

It was Emil Lerp, the founder of Dolmar, which developed the world’s first gasoline powered chain saw in 1927. Improvements in aluminum and engine design uplifted chainsaws to the point where in a person could carry it. This was done after the World War II.

Manufacturers who were making special short, narrow tipped bars for carving also became more popular. Such bars are called: nickel tipped, dime tipped, and quarter tipped.

Chainsaws actually come in different sizes (from small electric saws for home use to a large lumberjack saws). With thus, the simple man powered saws in forestry were somehow replaced.

Aside from this, In order to perform well, chainsaws are kept very sharp at all times. This is for the reason that it has a tendency to become blunt rapidly when exposed to the soil, stones or metal.
