How to Put Your Esthetician Training to Use

So, you have done all of the hard work. You have realized that you wanted to get yourself some esthetician training, you applied to beauty schools and you even figured out how to finance your education. You spent countless hours working on your esthetician training, graduated from beauty school and are currently figuring out what to do next. So how do you put your esthetician training to use?

Finding a good job in todays economy can be a pretty daunting task, but fortunately the beauty industry is still seeing a fair amount of growth and there are lots and lots of options available. If your esthetician training was in a specific area, you may need to consider a change of venue. For example, if you specialized in makeup application but never really got to know the ins and outs of giving a good haircut and color, you might need to move to a place like Los Angeles, where good makeup artists are always in need on movie sets and photo shoots.

On the other hand, if your esthetician training has a broader base and you can do a little bit of everything, you may need to narrow down what you really want to focus on. If you live to give face framing highlights, you should probably only apply for jobs that will give you the experience to hone your coloring skills. Salons that are known around town for fabulous color jobs might be where you should center your focus.

The key to putting your esthetician training to use is to find a job that constantly challenges you, enabling you to adapt your skills to just about any situation. Try applying to several different jobs, and even if you do not land your dream job right away, work hard at the next best thing. Once your client list has developed and your portfolio is rock solid, you can use the not quite awesome job as a stepping stone to get to the place where you want to be. At the very least, you will be doing what you love while using your esthetician training, regardless of where you work.

All in all, if you are having a hard time finding the right place to put your esthetician training to good use, you should not fret just yet. Cosmetology is a $20 billion a year industry and that number is increasing every day.
