Garage door seals and weather strips are intended to prevent dirt and dust getting into the garage through doors. They are also functional in keeping out rodents from getting into the garage. They can very well fit with a steel or wooden garage doors in a commercial or residential garage. This weather strip or doors gets easily and quickly install through staples or nails. The seals get easily fit with adjustable screws also and it can easily combine with brush seals for giving better protection. Most of the doors in older garage do not have seals in perfect condition allowing the cold air, dust and dirt to enter in the house which does not able to keep the inside of the house warm.

Before buying a garage door seal or weather strip, you need to look at the seals by adjusting between the door panels. Normally, the compression type seals are the most common type, which compresses the metal spring seal in the gap or the polyurethane bulb weather stripping in the gaps between the door and the garage. The best designed garage door seals and weather strips are the one in the form of shiplap panel edge and the one with the tongue and groove. These designs help creating a path for non straight air leakage, which prevents air blow from outside and inside the garage.

When your house gets ready for winters, make sure the proper installation of garage door seal and weather stripping in the between the gaps. You should not take chance on it, if it starts deteriorating during spring to prevent yourself from the upcoming troubles. If needed, replace the old seal with the new one. A pry bar is needed to use in that replacement process. Energy efficiency of the garage door seal and weather stripping depends upon the type of insulation. Weather stripping plays an important role in keeping the garage warm by protecting the cold breeze entering into it through the bottom of the doors. A double lip weather stripping properly installs according to the shape of door, even if is not smooth and thus helps to seal the floor with the door.

Insulation done in a garage door maintains an optimum temperature inside which makes it easier to start the car even if the temperature outside is below freezing point and do not require a heating block for it. The different types of garage door insulation used in the doors are used either with polyurethane or polystyrene. However both are safe products and can be used as insulating materials. Polystyrene, a solid state material, is molded according to the needs. Whereas polyurethane is applied through an automated system and being the foam material, every spaces between the panels of garage doors get easily fills with it.

By using foam in the spaces result in a sturdier door and insulation of polyurethane is a better option because it has higher insulating value, a measurement for highest rating of 3 inches of foam in the garage door. Manufacturers suggest going for a dark color door with this type insulation if the door is meant to expose in the sunlight for a long period. And if you are opting to go for polystyrene insulation, the important thing needed to make doors more durable and to protect it from any further defect is the process of gluing.
