The guest room is probably the most neglected room in the house. But if you are planning on having guests that will stay overnight in the future, you have to think of remodelling your guest room now to make it more appealing.
Even if you don’t plan for it, you will never know when a visitor will have to stay overnight. It is wise to prepare and always be ready for a surprise visit. So you must never take your guest room for granted. It is an indelible impression of your guest on your character and values, and it will clearly show how you are prepared to treat them well. Here are some ways on how you can create a perfect guest room:
•Revitalize flooring and walls
First of all, you have to examine the flooring and walls. Is the paint fading? Does the wallpaper look dull? Putting on a brand new paint is easy, and it is the most inexpensive step to create a new look and feel of the room.
Always remember that warm or neutral tones are the ones that are most inviting to your guests. If ever you are putting up new wallpaper, you can choose a soft pattern with a simple border to make it nice.
How about the flooring? Is the carpet worn or stained? If it is, maybe it is time to replace it with a new one. However, if the carpet is just a little matted down but still in decent shape, you can get a professional carpet cleaner to restore it for you.
If you have a hardwood floor, you can place an area rug to give the bedroom a warm touch.
•Coordinate the colour scheme
After deciding the colour for the wall, you can also coordinate the color of the comforters, curtains, sheets, and throw pillows to match. Unified colour schemes always look elegant. It will please the guests and make them feel special.
•Create storage space
Nobody wants to live out of their suitcase. So no matter how long your guest will stay with you, it is a nice idea to create storage space for some of their clothing and personal items while visiting. Clear out the drawers and put in a closet where they could also hang their clothes.
Be sure to leave some toiletries and fresh towels. Your guest will be grateful to you for these.
•Give bathroom access
How far is the bathroom from your guest room? Do guests need to walk a long way to get there?
If there is no convenient bathroom where they can have easy access, maybe you can section off the room to create a small one. This may require a much larger budget but your guests will definitely be impressed. This is a very good idea if you always have visitors spending the night in your house.
•Add some finishing touches
Little details make all the difference in your guest room. Make it feel like their home away from home by adding an alarm clock, radio or television, phone, fresh flowers or plants, reading lamp and recent magazines/books.
