The bathroom is an important area of the house. It is the place for personal hygiene and peaceful retreat. Therefore it should be a personal space, designed to be private, relaxing, and comfortable. The type of bathroom you install depends upon the space and layout of your house. It is important to have careful planning and thought before you decide on the kind of bathroom you want.

Even if you have an existing bathroom now, the installation of a second one for your house might be worth considering. Especially if you have a big family, the additional bathroom will put a stop to morning queues, and will reduce the wear and tear on your existing bathroom. If you are blessed with a big house space, you may want to install a bathroom with a shower cubicle or bath. If your space is small, you can just include the simple washbasin or a little shower area in your bedroom or guest room.

The bath is usually the focal point of a bathroom. It is a good idea to include it in the plan or floor design before construction. You may opt to have a sunken bath if you have a large space. But aside from requiring a special kind of skill to produce this type, it is also more expensive than regular baths. Small spaces have limited choices in terms of style or design, but you can still be very creative. Try to create a corner bath, which will efficiently save you a lot of space, and may even enable you to include an extra washbasin.

Choosing a proper bath does not only affect the overall look of your bathroom but it can also save you some money. For example, if you choose acrylic versions, they will most likely keep heated water longer than metallic and iron baths. Requiring less water in filling a bath may also reduce the monthly water bill if it is efficiently designed.

Remember that bathroom fixtures and fittings are very difficult to move around once it is already installed. You will spend a lot of money in alterations if you had a problem in its construction. Therefore, proper and long term thinking should be exercised in the design. The fixtures and materials used inside it should be of course waterproof. To prevent moulds from forming in the décor and the bath or washbasin, its edges should be sealed. Plastic sealants and sealant strips are always available from leading retailers.

Another factor to consider in your bathroom is storage space. Your bath products should be neatly organized and readily available. Cabinets and cupboards can be a great solution to this, and you can buy them in free standing or fixed versions. Also, avoid bathroom lightings that are glaring. Simple illumination is sufficient to perform your daily routine. Make sure that your lighting is approved for bathroom use and should be carefully sealed. Switches and sockets should also be placed high enough to prevent it from getting wet. Finally, include bath mats on your tiled floor to provide non slip surfaces that will add to your safety.
