There are many different types of hair dryers on the market today and all perform differently, the emf hair dryer stands for electro magnetic field (EMF). What does this mean and how can it affect you, the user? Well, Basically there is a school of thought that believes devices such as hair dryers emit electromagnetic waves, in some circles it is believed that this can lead to cancer, dementia and many other nasty diseases. To combat this hair dryers can now be bought that are built with defenses that reduce the amount of emf that are emitted from the products.

To dig a little deeper into the electromagnetic fields definition and explain further to you there is some more detailed information. Electric fields are created by the voltage that is supplied through a product, the higher the voltage of a product then the stronger the resultant field will become. As well as this there is the creation of Magnetic fields, these are created with the flow of the current of electricity, therefore the quicker the flow of electricity the stronger the magnetic field. In the outside world EMF is present everywhere and the majority of appliances will have a very low electromagnetic field level.

So back to hair dryers, the products will provide an emf, due to the flow of electrical current as explained in the description above. The emf blocking hairdryers work in different ways and there are certain ones which work and are only concerned with the AC magnetic fields. This means that the product will only be protected when it is plugged in, switched on and actually running. There are a few that will also deal with the AC Electric field, the device will then also be protected when it is just plugged in and not even switched on. When you are looking for a hairdryer and want the maximum protection from the emf then it would be advisable to look for one that shields for the AC Electric and the AC Magnetic fields.

There are many reasons as to why you may require a emf hair dryer compared to the regular ones. If you are sensitive to electrical charge and get affected by static it would be an advisable option. Many Professional hairdressers may be interested in having the emf hair dryer, with regular exposure on a daily basis for long lengths of time could be harmful. Many people who are ill or even pregnant do not want to be exposed to a high level of emf or if you have young children that use hairdryers it could be wise to consider an emf one for them. It is unlikely that there will be any damage caused from using a normal hair dryer and the nature of a hair dryer will mean the unit is usually away from your head and therefore the risk of exposure is reduced, the areas that are more likely to be exposed would be your arm or hands rather than you head.
