Millions of people suffer from some type of anxiety disorder. Anxiety Disorders can interfere with life and can cause problems and not only does a person suffering from anxiety attacks suffer emotionally, but they can have physical health problems as well. Some physical health problems caused by anxiety include insomnia, chest pains, migraines, nausea, upset stomach, trouble breathing and sweating.

People suffering from anxiety problems sometimes develop substance abuse problems. They could drink excessively or become addicted to nerve pills as a way to try to suppress the anxiety and this is very often accompanied by depression.
There are five types of Anxiety Disorders:

• Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) A generalized anxiety disorder is when the sufferer experiences excessive fear and worry over situations that really aren’t that bad. For instance, if a loved one is just a few minutes late in returning home, a person with GAD may start to fear and panic that the family member has been in some sort of accident. Another example of GAD would be when a person stays up all night worrying over something that they can’t control, even if it’s something that really isn’t that bad.

• Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Is an anxiety disorder in which a person experiences obsessive thoughts and compulsions that they have trouble controlling. They will often do repetitive tasks such as washing their hands over and over again, for instance, if they have an obsessive fear of germs.

• Panic Disorder People who suffer from panic disorder will at times experience a sudden attack of fear that hits them hard and unexpectedly. A person suffering a panic attack will have trouble breathing and feel their heart pounding; they may even mistake their panic attack for a heart attack.

• Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) A person may have post traumatic stress disorder after witnessing and/or experiencing a terrifying ordeal in which they were either harmed or witnessed someone else being harmed. They will continue having fear and/or stress after the traumatic event.

• Social Phobia People who suffer from social phobia are more than just “shy”. They experience overwhelming anxiety when they are in social situations. A child with social phobia, for instance, is terrified to speak out loud in class. They’re not just shy about talking in class, they’re terrified of it. They’re also too afraid to talk with other classmates as well, even during group work. An adult with social phobia, likewise, is terrified at the thought of speaking out at work or at work meetings. People suffering from social phobia always prefer to work by themselves.

Thankfully, there is help available for all types of anxiety disorders and they happen to be some of the easiest mental disorders to treat. There are many mental help providers who assist people in dealing with anxiety disorders every day. There is also medication that can be given to patients suffering from these disorders and this can help sedate them and calm their nerves. If you feel that you are suffering from any type of anxiety disorder and it’s causing problems in your life, go and get help immediately.
